What do you think?
Question: Are people made for us?
“Made for us? Thank God, no. They are themselves, odder than you could have believed and worth far more than we guessed.” CS Lewis
Knowledge and questions about me!
The most important questions that all people ask about themselves in some form or other are:
- “Who am I?”
- “Who are you?”
- “What is my purpose in life?”
- “Am I significant in the universe?” and of course
- “Does life exist after death?”
The ability to ask profound questions such as these is one of the qualities that distinguishes humans from other creatures and places humans on a level that is in metacognition terms worlds beyond other living beings. Asking such questions is also part of the journey of searching for personal significance in the universe.
These apparently simple questions are so significant and profound that throughout all of recorded human history, the most intelligent thinkers of all ethnic nations, languages and cultures have applied themselves to these questions and, the existence of philosophical endeavours and religious thinking can be considered in part the result of the search for such answers. We will look at some of these questions when aiming to provide tools that will help anyone decide what is right to believe about any of the many issues to do with religion, politics, morality, marriage, the family, government, the environment, etc….
What if there were conversations that helped me think about many of the questions I am asking..?
